Women’s suffrage in seven portraits

Seven of the most important campaigners for women’s suffrage in the UK were depicted in portrait-style by historian Dr Maureen Wright. Her talk on 11 March 2023 in Congleton, where suffragist and suffragette Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy spent most of her life. A statue, ‘Our Elizabeth’ stands in the centre of Bridge Street, Congleton.

The talk celebrated International Women’s Day and the anniversary of the unveiling of the ‘Our Elizabeth’ statue.
